How to get to Masbate?
  • By Air: One can reach Leyte by taking a flight via Manila or Cebu. In Manila you need to transfer from the international airport terminal to the domestic airport terminal for a direct flight to Tacloban City, Leyte.
    From Tacloban, buses or vans travel to Baybay also every hour, traveling time is approximately 2.5 hours.
  • By Sea: If your flight is coming from Cebu City, you can take a taxi from the airport to the harbor/pier – You can choose to ride a passenger vessel via Ormoc City or direct to Baybay City. Make sure to check the schedule of the boats before making a plans.
    From Ormoc buses and jeepneys travel to Baybay which is about a 1-hour drive
What to see and where to go in Masbate?
  • Pawa Mangrove Nature Park – The biggest area of natural mangrove growth, the park offers its visitors a beautiful sight for bird watching, fishing and family bonding time. It also has a 1.3km wooden bridge that connects Barangay Pawa and Sitio Daang Lungsod of Barangay Usad.
  • Bugsayon Marine Sanctuary – Witness amazing live corals and diverse marine life in this 50 hectare marine sanctuary.
  • Buntod Sand Bar and Marine Sanctuary – A 250 hectare white sandbar showcasing hard and soft coral covers within its magnificent underwater sceneries.
  • Floating Restaurant – Cruise along the Masbate Bay while indulging in good food and live music in this floating restaurant.
  • Underwater Cave – A cave whose entrance is undersea, divers both skilled and unskilled will take only a few seconds to enter during hightide. Inside the cave are caskets made of solid wood and is said to be 500 years old. Some of the caskets are believed to still contain human remains.
  • Catandayagan Falls – Considered to be one of the beautiful falls in the province, Catandayagan Falls cascades from 60 feet to its base.
  • Isla de Paraiso – An islet covered in powdery white sand and crystal water, unbelievable sunsets can be witnessed from here
What to eat in Masbate? (Local Delicacies)
  • Carmelado - the province's version of the Pastillas de Leche. This native delicacy is made of pure Carabao's milk and a little of white sugar, cut into thin rectangular shapes and wrapped in white paper, it can be found in the fort of Masbate and Flea Markets.
Local Festivals in Masbate
  • Pagdayao Festival – A celebration done every June 13 of the year gives honour and thanks to the city’s patron saint, Saint Anthony of Padua.
  • Rodeo Masbateno. The only known rodeo show in Asia, Masbateno’s showcase 10 competitive events for cowboys and their calves. The event is celebrated every month of April.
  • Barangay Bantigue Festival – Celebrated every 10th of August, the festival is in honour of Saint Felomina. People flock to visit the church, dance and pray to Saint Felomina requesting for her intercession. Saint Felomina is believed to be miraculous especially to those who are having difficulties conceiving a child.
