Davao: The Philippine Eagle Center

The Philippine Eagle is widely believed to be one of the largest and most powerful eagles in the world. Sadly, it is also among the most critically endangered species.

The Philippine Eagle Center in Davao serves as a home to these birds, aiming to prevent its extinction.

The Philippine Eagle Center, Davao

The Philippine Eagle Research and Nature Center (or also known as The Philippine Eagle Center, or Philippine Eagle Camp) is in a pocket of native forest in Malagos, just 45 minutes away from Davao City. Because the center simulates a tropical rain forest environment, visitors get to experience a bit of the country’s forest ecosystem.

The center currently works with 36 birds, some of them bred in captivity. They also care for several other species of birds, and even a few mammals and reptiles.  Short educational programs are provided for the visitors, such as the Keeper Talk which provides visitors with a chance to interact with an eagle with guidance from its caretaker. Another highlight is the camp’s falconry activity in which the birds are released from their enclosures and put on an unforgettable aerial performance.
