About Pagadian
The capital city of the province of Zamboanga Del Sur, Pagadian City is the regional center of the Zamboanga Peninsula. Its rolling terrain boardering both the commercial and residential districts earned this city’s name of being the “little Hong Kong of the South”. Pagadian City is the largest province in Western Mindano and is consequently the point of entry to Ozamiz, Iligan and Cotabato.
Pagadian City boasts of several things. Aside from natural attractions like Mt. Palpalan, the Kendis Cave and the Manga falls to name a few, Pagadian City has also been awarded for several years now as the cleanest and greenest city in Western Mindano. The city has an excellent watershed management program, exceptional Ecological Solid Waste Management Program, beautification projects and expanded vegetables and crops production activities by the city’s Agricultural office.
The city had its beginnings as a stopover for traders who ply the road between the Spanish town-fort of Zamboanga on the southern tip of the Zamboanga Peninsula and other bigger towns to the north of the old province of Zamboanga. Apart from its sheltered bay and good fishing grounds, it was not a place where anyone envisioned a city would be founded upon since it is situated on rolling terrain. In the course of its local history, steady waves of different kinds of people came to stay and eventually called themselves “Pagadianons.”
The iconic symbol of Pagadian is its uniquely designed tricycle built to adopt to the city’s hilly terrain. The locals claim with pride that it is the only place in the Philippines where one can see a public transport inclined at about 25-40° angle
