Are you planning a trip this June? If yes, why don’t you head to Northern Samar and be just in time to celebrate its founding anniversary?
On the third week of June, Northern Samar will be celebrating its founding anniversary.
During the Spanish period, Northern Samar was first called Ibabao. The province is known as one of the first areas that staged a rebellion against the oppressive Spaniards. The famous Sumoroy Rebellion that occured from 1605 to 1650 happened at the coastal town of Palapag located in the eastern part of the province. During the 18th century, Palapag also became the seaport of Galleon Trade. The island of Capul in the San Bernardino Strait is believed to have been derived from “Acapulco,” which is the Mexican destination of ships coming from Manila.
The theme for Northern Samar’s 47th founding anniversary is “I love Northern Samar.” To encourage more people to join the celebration, the provincial government is setting up educational and fun-filled events that everyone would surely enjoy!
To start off the event, there would be several pageants happening at Catubig and Catarman, Northern Samar that aim to showcase not only the beauty but also the brains of the provinces’ young ladies.
